R&J is a butcher with deep roots to the land and an abundant farming heritage.
R&J was founded in 1978 by Robert and Jo Atkinson, both from farming families and both very much still involved in the everyday running of the business today. Their son Ryan, now managing, is the fifth generation of the family to be involved in farming. That hard-won harmony with the land lies at the heart of R&J Yorkshires Finest.
Robert and Jo were inspired to build on the firm foundations provided by their successful cattle farming business and began supplying select meats direct to friends, neighbours and local families nearly forty years ago.
Many of those early customers are still on the books today.
Word gradually spread and before long restaurants and country pubs from miles around were placing orders. R&J continues to win new customers thanks to the firm’s unswerving focus on quality. These days R&J supply meats to a vast number of catering establishments throughout Yorkshire and the surrounding counties.
Its humble beginnings in a converted barn now long behind it, R&J is based in a purpose built EU-approved cutting plant, extended in 2013 to cover approximately 10 000 sq ft.
R&J is one of the very few catering butchers in the country to maintain their own herd, and an informal cooperative of suppliers who have all been chosen for their focus on taste, free grazing and animal welfare.
