Any Moor Grouse?

When it comes to locality for Yorkshire’s Finest Game birds we cannot be more fortunate. R & J is within an hours drive (on windy country roads) of some of the finest moorlands in Yorkshire, if not the country. Five dales; Nidderdale, Wensleydale, Swaledale, Coverdale and Wharfdale are all on our doorstep.

The breeding season of grouse is very sensitive to a number of environmental factors. Early indications for 2020 unfortunately anticipate low numbers of grouse. Dry weather has attributed to this meaning heather hasn’t been able to flourish and therefore limited food available for the grouse.

2019 Moorland Heather

We have worked very closely with the Dent Family for nearly a decade now, as friends as well as suppliers. They have been collecting from Yorkshire’s Finest shoots and supplying quality game for generations. Next Wednesday, 12th August, follow our day on Facebook. To kick off the 2019 season Ryan joined Dan, Andrew’s son for the first shoot of the year.

As with previous years we will be making our first collection just after lunch on the Glorious Twelfth. We pride ourselves in distributing from Yorkshire Moor to Kitchen Door within 6 hours. Michelin Star Restaurant at Northcote, Lancashire and Freemasons at Wiswell will both be serving the first of the 2020 Grouse.

We only source wild animals, not farmed, when it comes to game including venison. We believe that the welfare of the animal from being in its natural habitat is far better as well as the flavour of the meat.

The Glorious Twelfth kicks off the start of the Game Season. Yorkshire’s Finest Game will be live soon on our website for delivery direct to your home as we progress through the season.
